About Cynthia Austin
Cynthia Austin lives in Northern California with her husband, two boys, and Olde English Bulldogge named Count Dogula. They love all things horror, gothic, and Victorian which prompts her friends to dub them as “The Adams Family.”
She is an avid reader who may be slightly obsessed with music. She hears music in a way that she believes the artist intended it to be heard: visually, with a storyline that follows. Listening to the songs by her favorite artists, she was inspired to write her first series titled “The Pendant.”
Cynthia has been published twice in The Writer’s Monthly Magazine as well as the online news site, Yahoo! Voices. She currently attends Diablo Valley College, in Pleasant Hill, California, where she is working to achieve her degree in English.

EXCERPTS from Between Loves by Cynthia Austin
I stood in the foyer shaking, realizing for the hundredth time I did not know this man at all. If that was indeed his ex-girlfriend, she was obviously hiding from him for a reason. Not to mention the undeniable fact that he had traveled all the way across the country with the sole intention to find her.
And now it seemed that he was threatening her if she didn’t give herself up.
My little altercation with Ray seemed like a walk in the park compared to this. Adrian’s ex-girlfriend was running throughout the country trying to escape him. I figured he must be crazy or something.
Then, I had a horrible thought.
Was he crazy enough to kill Nouri when he found out that I was leaving?
He took a step closer until his face was inches from mine. His scent was mixed with cigarettes and cologne and it was whirling around making me dizzy with foolishness again.
He emotionally leveled me, “What are you going to pass up while you’re waiting for him?”
Of all of the mixed signals that Adrian let off, this one was unlike any he had said to me. This statement was loud and clear. Now, I knew. He actually felt the same attraction for me that I felt for him.
I gripped the bottom of his brown sweater and played with the wool, pulling it closer to me. He obliged and took a step closer. Our bodies were now touching and the warmth of each of us radiated serious heat. My back was pressed against the door and he was in front of me. There was no escape and for the first time, I didn’t want one. I didn’t want to run away like I so often did when the situation got awkward. I was staring into his eyes, trying to get him to read what my mouth refused to say. But he was a statue waiting for me to answer.
“Am I passing something up?” I breathed barely comprehending anything else in the universe at that singular moment.
“I just wish we could have met at a different time, when my mind wasn’t so messed up.”
He lit his cigarette and enjoyed the first few drags before responding, “Maybe we were supposed to meet while you were so messed up.”
I raised my eyebrow in speculation of his theory.
He smiled. “I know you think that soul mates are found based on a person’s musical preferences, but what if soul mates are brought together to fix each other?”
I didn’t know how to answer other than to reply with a joke. “I suppose I had better go search for a heart surgeon then.” I chose to pretend that his subliminal message had flown over my head.
